Costa Rica weather consists of two seasons the dry season and the wet season. The dry season extends from May to November and this is the popular tourist season. From December to April, the country experiences the wet season, but this doesnt mean that it rains continually. There is rain for a period of time everyday, but you will still have sunny periods and the temperature is always warm. The rainfall follows a predictable schedule, so you will know where to go to avoid the heaviest rain. The windward sides of the country experience the most rain.

With Costa Rica weather, the temperatures depend on where you are and how high above sea level you are. On the coast the temperatures are high, while they are cooler inland. The average temperature on the Pacific lowlands is about 32 but falls steadily as you go up to higher areas. The central plateau sees average temperatures of about 22 degrees and the Caribbean coast enjoys about 27 degrees. The hottest months are from March to May, and August and September.

In the wet season of Costa Rica weather, it usually rains early in the afternoon in the highlands, mid afternoon in the pacific lowlands, and late afternoon and night in the Atlantic lowlands. You can easily schedule your activities around the rainfall and enjoy your vacation in the off- season. The rain usually lasts for an hour or two and the mornings start off sunny and clear. The rainfall can pour down unexpectedly with the force of a waterfall, so you do need to be prepared at all times.

In the dry season, Costa Rica weather is hot and sunny allowing you to take advantage of all beach activities and get a fantastic tan. If you visit the rainforest, though, you do need to take along a jacket and umbrella. The nights do tend to get cold because the heat of the sun rarely reaches the forest floor.
