Planning a Costa Rica nature tour is almost as difficult as trying to see everything you can within a week. IN order to see all of Costa Ricas nature you really do need to take several weeks or several vacations. A tour through one of the many agencies will get you a small glimpse of everything that is available.

Many tourists use San Jose as a base when they go on a Costa Rica nature tour for one or two days. Poas Volcano National Park is very popular because of the mildly active volcano. A short walk through the woods, you can see an older crater, which is now a very beautiful lake. On you way to the park, you will pass through fields of coffee. If you are with a tour group, every stop is carefully timed, so you may not be able to spend as much time as you like at one stop. Planning the nature tour yourself will give you more time to enjoy the sights and sounds.

The Arenal Volcano and the Tabacon Hot Springs are a must for any Costa Rica nature tour. Scientists come from all over the world to study this active volcano and you may be one of the lucky ones to see an eruption. Most of the time the peak is covered with clouds, but if an eruption occurs at night, it is truly a spectacular sight. The rainforest is quite close to the volcano where you can rent a lodge and actually spend the night. Imagine waking up to the sound of howling monkeys!

If you choose to have San Jose as your base you will be able to take in more through a Costa Rica Nature tour. When you arrive in the capital there are many different agencies that supply tour guides for day trips. This allows you to be back to enjoy the nightlife of the city.
