| Instead of staying at a hotel or resort you can spend your vacation in a Costa Rica home and enjoy all the cultural aspects of the country. You can enjoy your meals with the family and get the information you need about what you should see and do. This also gives you an opportunity to experience true Costa Rican food. A typical breakfast consists of fruit, gallo pinto (beans and rice with spices) and coffee or tea. If you wish the family can have cereal and toast for you, but you can have that at home anytime.
There are many agencies that book tours where you can stay with a family in a Costa Rica home. The home stay option is one that is uses mostly by students who want to learn Spanish in a natural setting, but it is not exclusive to this group. A couple that registers together will be able to stay in the same home so that they can learn the language together. The people in Costa Rica dress well and everything is ironed even the underwear. There is hot water in all the homes, supplied through an electric heating device in the showerhead, though some homes do have central hot water tanks.
