While in Costa Rica, travel is not difficult. If you are staying in San Jose, though, it is advisable to use the public transportation system or use taxi service. This is because of the enormous amount of traffic and the difficulty of finding suitable places to park. There are many rental agencies where you can rent a vehicle to travel to different parts of the country. Some areas are fine for an ordinary car, but there are many areas where you will need to use a four-wheel drive vehicle, especially if you visit the country during the wet season.

Most people like to be able to see Costa Rica on their own, but in Costa Rica, travel agencies are now offering the services of a personal driver. This service allows you peace of mind because you are travelling with someone who knows the country and the traffic laws. You wont have to worry about having to leave someone to watch the car when you visit one of the tourist destinations. This measure is necessary because of the rise in theft of belongings and the cars themselves.

In Costa Rica, travel is also possible by air. There are two domestic airlines that will take you to many of the popular locations. You can book your flights online and it is advisable to make reservations before you get to Costa Rica. These seats are often booked well in advance and leaving it to the last minute may deprive you of a day or two of sightseeing. Travelling by bus is the most economical way to get around. These vehicles are air-conditioned with room for you to carry along your luggage. They run from most of the tourist resorts, but they also need to be booked in advance.
